Last week when I was cleaning Komo’s container
(Komo is one of our Red Ear Slider turtles) I noticed what looked like an egg shell. Yesterday morning when I fed them I saw an egg in the pond. It was in the water, but it’s still intact. In the picture in the left Komo is the one at the lower left corner. You can see the egg under Kimi, the turtle in the middle.
I then picked up the egg and moved it to a bucket with water in it to save the egg from breaking. Goggling “Red Ear Slider Eggs” I found the instruction to care for the eggs from this site. According to this site I was supposed to mark the top part of the egg and then put it back in the same position. Also, I later found out that the egg was not supposed to be left under water. These two I think, might have killed the egg. However, I took the chance and today I built the incubator using one of the aquariums. I bought a small bag of vermiculite and I hope I followed the instruction correctly. The next two pictures are the aquarium-turned-incubator. Notice the condensation in the first picture as I set the thermostat to 80. The second picture was taken from above (top view). I would be surprised if this egg will hatch, but in the meantime I also built a nesting place in the pond, and I hope that Komo will lay more eggs.
