Feeling the Pinch at the Gas Pump

Gas prices seem to inch up every day. It was $4.389/gallon yesterday when I filled up, and it is predicted to go up even higher. Ouch…….

To alleviate the pain when we fill up, we bought a 1998 Honda Civic EX last month. I figured it will save me at least a gallon and a half every day I work. I’ve been happy with it. 🙂 Nothing fancy, just a plain ol’ Civic. Here are some pictures of it.

Hiking in Yosemite

On Saturday, May 31st I went hiking to the Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. It was a 17-mile hike, and I knew that I was not able to go all the way to the top, so my goal was to reach half way, the Nevada Fall. There were 14 of us- my supervisor at work who also coaches a swim team in Tulare, some of his swimmers, 3 moms, Nathan-a youth from my church, and myself. We started around 7:00 in the morning. I was back to the car by 3:00, but the rest of the group that went all the way to Half Dome were not back until 9:30 at night.

It was a tiring hike, but the view was so scenic. We hiked through Mist Trail and we passed through Vernal Fall. Going down I took John Muir Trail.

Have you ever wondered what is at the top of a water fall? Take a look at the pictures below.  The one on the left is a picture of Nevada Fall, and the one on right was taken from the top.  More pictures in the “Photo Albums” and on Tule Nation Tritons’ website.

Shaved Duke

After we’ve got home from Pismo I picked up Duke from his hotel. When I dropped him off I told him that we wanted him groomed and had his hair trimmed or shaved. I just trusted their judgement and wasn’t specific whether I wanted him trimmed or shaved. When I picked him up, we got a shaved German Shepherd. Here are the before and after pictures.

Pismo Beach

dsc01250.JPGJust got back from Pismo Beach. We left on Wednesday, 4/16 and spent a couple of nights there. Tryphena had been very excited since Saturday about going to the beach. She wanted to bring everything “to the beach”- all of her toys, books, tricycle, and even Duke. 🙂 It was her first time going to the beach, and her face lit up when we got there. We spent a little over 2 hours on the beach on Wednesday before heading back to the hotel and called it a day.

On Thursday morning we went to Moro Bay and we fed seals there. We also had lunch there, and then went South to Solvang. We strolled the stores, ate pastry and ice cream and then went back to Pismo to spend the rest of the afternoon on the beach. We bought dinner at Thai Talay and ate at the hotel. Easter Weekend

dsc01027.JPGI got Friday off to observe Good Friday (yeah…. I’m waiting for ACLU to file a lawsuit). Our nice neighbor next door invited us to their house to decorate Easter eggs. Tryphena cracked a few eggs since it was her first time handling eggs.

Today we went to Shaver Lake, about 45 minutes from home to play snow. I promised Tryphena that I would make a snowman for her. I’ve uploaded some pictures into the album.

Tomorrow is Easter! He is risen indeed! We’re going to commemorate the single most important event in history that changed the course of mankind – the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. After church we’re having a potluck.

Happy Easter!

He’s Risen!

The eighth century Eastern theologian John of Damascus has written one of the great hymns of the Christian church celebrating the redemptive joy and judicial benediction that flow from the resurrection of Christ:

Come, ye faithful, raise the strain of triumphant gladness;
God hath brought his Israel into joy from sadness;
Loosed from Pharaoh’s bitter yoke Jacob’s sons and daughters;
Led them with unmoistened foot through the Red Sea waters.

‘Tis the spring of souls today; Christ hath burst his prison,
And from three days’ sleep in death, as a sun hath risen;
All the winter of our sins, long and dark, is flying
From his light, to whom we give laud and praise undying.

Now the queen of seasons, bright with the day of splendor,
With the royal feast of feasts, comes its joy to render;
Comes to glad Jerusalem, who with true affection
Welcomes in unwearied strains Jesus’ resurrection.

Neither might the gates of death, nor the tomb’s dark portal,
Nor the watchers, nor the seal hold thee as a mortal:
But today amidst thine own thou didst stand, bestowing
Thine own peace, which evermore passeth human knowing
.

Merry Christmas!

The Word of God Himself,

Who is before all worlds, the Invisible, the Incomprehensible, the Bodiless, the Beginning of beginning, the Light of Light, the Source of Life and Immortality, the Image of the Archetype, the Immovable Seal, the Unchangeable Image, the Father’s Definition and Word,

came to His Own Image, and took on Him Flesh for the sake of our flesh, and mingled Himself with an intelligent soul for my soul’s sake, purifying like by like; and in all points except sin was made Man….

He came forth, then, as God, with That which He had assumed; one Person in two natures….O new commingling; O strange conjunction!  The Self-existent comes into Being, the Uncreated is created, That which cannot be contained is contained by the intervention of an intellectual soul mediating between the Deity and the corporeity of the flesh.  And He who gives riches becomes poor; for He assumes the poverty of my flesh, that I may assume the richness of His Godhead.  He that is full empties Himself; for He empties Himself of His Glory for a short while, that I may have a share in His Fullness.

13 Years Later

Today we are celebrating our 13th anniversary. Many changes took place in 13 years: 3 dogs, 3 addresses, 3 phone numbers, job changes, the birth of Tryphena, and many other things, and…. I’m getting thinner on top. 🙂 Despite many things that happened, we stay together and our love for each other grows stronger. Below are 2 pictures of our wedding, and 1 current picture.
