We’re glad to welcome the newest addition to the Gunawans family!! No, it’s not what you’re thinking. 🙂
After a little over 2 years, it was time to part with my beloved Civic. We said “good bye” to each other about 2 weeks ago. Farewell, my old faithful little car! Hope you’ll be of good use to your new master as you’d been to us.
Ever since I had been searching for a used Volkswagen diesel up and down the state. Finally the search was over yesterday when we picked up Vicky (yes, that’s her new name) from Newark, California. Vicky has a lot of miles on her, almost 200,000 miles; however, her age is not that old. She’s only 7 years old, and if you look at her appearance, you wouldn’t have guessed that she has already accumulated so many miles. Her body is in almost perfect condition with only 2 little dings that are barely noticeable. She has a chipped windshield that I already fixed. Inside, she’s very very clean. Click here for more pictures of hers.
I had thought of buying a diesel vehicle for quite some time, but because it is hard to find I almost gave up until a few weeks ago when my friend Bobby showed me http://www.searchtempest.com where you can search multiple Craigslists simultaneously. Some prospects came up but others beat me. On Sunday I came across Vicky and I immediately called and set an appointment to see her. The main reason for my choosing a diesel car is its fuel economy. I have not had a chance to calculate Vicky’s mpg yet.
Yesterday I came across these sites that I found to be interesting. On this site a 2003 Jetta TDI just like ours had a lot of work done under the hood to transform it from a mere 90 hp car to be a 200 horses strong without much sacrifice on the fuel consumption. Most diesel engines can be modified to run on straight vegetable oil (SVO)- used cooking oil that can be had for free from restaurants. There are some kits available on the market, and one of them is from http://www.fattywagons.com
I hope Vicky will be trouble free for many years to come. Be a good girl, Vicky!
